She is a Media sciences student in Bahria College Karachi. She attended the theatre workshop on 24 April 2017, she described herself that she is a valiant and influenced student of her university but she didn’t get any platform to show her abilities. When her teacher assigned her as a CR of the batch who was coming to attend our theatre workshop and theatre play she got something where she could utilize her capabilities. By initiating activities, volunteering for others and managing the batch, Saffa marked her quality in our mind. After the session, we have communicated with her and ask about her, and then she told us that she is the CR of this batch and she supposed to manage them all.
She also described that she learned a lot from these activities and now she is willing to stage her own social theatre play utilizing her class students and the attendees of the theatre workshop – Peace Troupe. We encouraged her and offered her that we (Faisal Malik artistic director Thespianz and Nouman Mehmood associate director Thespianz) will provide you with counseling, supervision, and direction for initiating this theatre play in your university premises. She was really happy and praised Thespianz’s efforts in a good manner.
In earlier May 2017, Saffa called us and said that she has prepared a script which is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s famous play “Othello”. She customized that play and named it “Nidamat-e-Shak” which means “Guilt on Doubt” and she wanted our help to organize this play in a professional manner. We went there and helped her to organize this play, she said that “Sir I was really amazed when you have been so nice to me and you actually came out to help us as you have committed, and I was not expecting that you will help us after accomplishing your session”.
After staging a successful thought-provoking social theatre “Nidamat-e-Shak” in her university, Saffa is now an official drama club in-charge in Bahria University and now she initiates social and entertainment based theatres, short plays, improvisation sessions and beginners theatre workshops for Bahria university and always gets in touch with us in kind of any support.
A Youngster from Shahfaisal Colony
My name is Aijaz Ayyub and I am a resident of Shah Faisal Colony - Karachi. I am working on a local petrol pump as a cashier. When I was in 7 class. I usually participate in our school's functions, acting in drama tableau. From the childhood, I really loved things associated with art and culture. When I appeared in 10 class, my father passed away and unfortunately I had to leave my schools and joined garments factory for earning my family's bread and butter. Time flew, I grew up as a working boy, neither a student nor an artist.
Today, (On 19 November 2017) I wasn't feeling well so I decided to take leave from my work and be at the home. In the noon, I heard some noises on our street, when I came out of my home, I saw a beautiful cultural setup where our national songs were being played on the sound system. I felt really good to see such thing after so long time. I walked and reached to the people there (Team Thespianz), asked them about the happening and I got answered that they are promoting our culture through string puppetry and spreading peace and harmony through this activity. I was really very happy to hear this. I just asked them what you need? I mean how may I help you? what do you want from our area? I would love to help you, people!! Actually, I wanted to be part of this. I brought my area's male and female individuals audience for this activity. I served them (team thespianz) with water and tea. I really loved those puppets dance on our folk songs. It gave me goosebumps and took me to my past when I was participating in my school's functions. I just forgot my illness because I was really enjoying the activity. After ending of the performance, I realized that my passion for art is still alive inside me, I spoke to one of representative of Thespianz Theatre that I would like to be a volunteer with you people on my holidays. He gave me a very positive response and agreed to call me for participating in their events. I came back to my home with smiling face. "It's been an awesome day in my life after many years and I cannot forget this day in my whole life".
Factory worker from Orangi Town
We have got this story from "Orangi Town" when we were setting up our set and stuff, a person came to us "Naimatullah" and said "What you are going to do here?" we told him about our festival and invited him to attend this activity either bring friends and family here, He laughed and said, what we have got from Pakistan? what has Pakistan done for us? here is nothing to do, there is no cultural existence of our country but extremism violence and terrorism prevails on its peak. One of our representatives guided him that there is a rich culture of Pakistan, somehow you are right about the law and order situation in the country.
This is the reason why we came out with our team to promote peace and harmony through this festival. Then we insisted Naimat to attend this performance, he agreed. After the performance and discussion sessions, he came to team and excused from his misunderstanding about the facts. As per him, he learned to improve own attitude and help others to do this for bringing positivity in society. No, any country is bad, it’s just our own preferences that how we attempt to improve and contribute our role for the betterment of community. Furthermore he gave commitment to disseminate this learning to others as well.
